Let's explore: Playdough

Playdough is one of our favourite ways to spark creativity, build little hand muscles and let imaginations run wild. The best part is, there's no right or wrong way to play!

Here are our top 5 simple and fun ways to enjoy playdough at home:

  1. Roll, Squash and Squeeze

Encourage your little one to roll playdough into balls or sausages, squash it flat and squeeze it in their hands. This is fantastic for building strength in little fingers, which is great for early writing skills!

2. Create Story Scenes

Turn playdough into characters, animas or even magical worlds. Add small toys or natural items like sticks and levaes to bring stories to life.

3. Add Hidden Treasures

Hide small, safe objects inside the playdough and let your little one dig them out. This adds an exciting sensory element and encourages problem-solving.

4. Use Tools and Cutters

Cookie cutters, plastic knives, cups or even a fork can turn playdough into a whole new experience. It's perfect for exploring shapes and patterns.

5. Make Letters and Shapes

Roll playdough into lines and form letters, numbers or simple shapes. It's a playful way to introduce early phonics and recognition skills.

At Story Imagin-ory Stockport, we love using playdough in our play trays to support creativity, storytelling, and hands-on learning, all while having lots of fun!
